dropps laundry pods to wash turkish towels

I've never been in love with my laundry detergent. Most of us just use what our moms used. But my mom's detergent of choice caused me major skin irritation. Which I didn't realize until I moved out and started using something else.

But really, over the years I've never been in love with any particular detergent. I did know that I hated buying it. It was so heavy. And I was always worried about it leaking all over my back seat (power or liquid).

I tried some natural ones that left my clothes feeling dirty (and stinky). And some "traditional" detergents that gave me literal rashes on my skin. I never could find a balance. It was either "natural" and left my clothes dingy, or "traditional" and irritated my skin (and nose).

And now that I own a Turkish towel company, I should have a strong opinion about laundry detergent. After all, the wrong detergent can be harmful to natural fibers (and our towels are made from 100% Turkish cotton, a very natural fiber).

So I tried something new. It's called Dropps. Have you heard of it?

Dropps Laundry Review

It's mail order (which I love!) and they're all about reducing plastic. They're pods - and apparently they're the original founders of pod style laundry detergent (I was not aware of that!). And really, they look like a brand and product I'd love.

So I placed my order and within a few hours I got a notice that my order had shipped. I love that. Oh, and it shipped for free. I double love that.

They arrived in a tiny box that was super well designed. Once I cut it open the box unfolded into two sections - each holding 30 pods of Dropps

So instead of a huge box of powder or jug of liquid, I just had two tiny boxes. I don't have a big laundry room. Actually, it's not a room at all. It's a small closet off a hallway in the back of my house. So there's not a lot of storage space for things like big jugs of detergent.

And once I use up the pods the box is recycle-able or compost-able.

I have an HE washer without an agitator. I was worried the pod wouldn't dissolve well and would mean my clothes wouldn't get soapy enough. So I tested it. I held a pod under running water and within 20 seconds it had fully dissolved. The outer packet dissolved fully as well (and didn't leave a slimy film).

According to their website, the pod membrane is a water soluble film made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH). It is engineered to completely dissolve in your washer, even in cold water temperatures. And it does.

I remember trying a new detergent after seeing a Super Bowl ad claiming it was the best detergent in the world. It was now available in the US so I was like, yep, I'm trying that. The second I opened the bottle I regretted my decision. The smell was overwhelming. And a sickly sweet smell. YUCK. I used it for a few loads but the smell lingered so strongly on my clothes, towels, and bedding I just threw it out. It make me sick.

I was worried about the smell of Dropps because I'd been burned in the past.

I ordered the Fresh Scent and was pleasantly surprised with how light and fresh it smells. I'd describe it as lemony-citrus (but like, light and fresh lemony). It doesn't have an overpowering scent at all. But just enough.

I prefer a little fragrance but they do also have a fragrance free available.

So what's in Dropps? Are Dropps safe?

Here's the full ingredient list for the product I purchased: Sensitive Skin Laundry Detergent - Fresh Scent (there's an ingredient list for all their products on their website).

Dropps Ingredient list

Looks pretty clean and safe to me. But of course, as with all household cleaning products and detergents, please keep out of reach of children and pets.

I washed my sheets first. And they came out feeling super clean and smelling lightly fragranced. It was the perfect combo. I was happy from the first wash using Dropps. I've continued to use them and every time they dissolve quickly and my clothes come out feeling clean and smelling fresh. That's exactly what I look for in a laundry detergent.

Here's their mission:

We have a vision for what home care can – and should be. We believe that you can have it all: effective, eco-responsible, and convenient products. Not one thing at the expense of another.

Better for you, better for the planet.

And on top of that, they're also made in the USA.

I fully believe they're living up to their mission and not just green washing by slapping "all-natural" on their labels. They also make other household cleaning products, like dish detergent and an odor defense spray. I haven't tried them yet, but they're next on my list.

So do I recommend Dropps? Absolutely. They're a brand that is working hard to reduce plastic and carbon emissions (better than most brands). Give Dropps a try here, and let me know what you think in the comments.
